If I Were
I'm not that fragile flower you think I am,
But if I were a flower,
I'd be in full bloom, strong and bright,
Swaying in the field of poppies,
I'm not about to crack under the pressure,
But if I were to someday crack,
I'd show all these beautiful golden dreams,
My onion-like layers, gold upon gold,
I'm not a ticking time bomb about to explode,
But if I were, I'd become the brightest star,
A shining beacon to those in the dark,
Destroying the dark and spreading fire,
I'm not drowning in a sea of air,
But if I were, I'd learn to swim,
Back to shore and caress the sands of time,
And look back to see how far I've come,
I'm not a broken little girl,
I am that warrior that men do fear,
Winning all my battles, by own hand,
Loving when I want, and whom I choose,
I am living my life in full bloom,
Not in need of saving, or controlling,
Thanks to my battles, I became strong,
For now, I am that warrior of little girl dreams.
