If I Was the Rain

If I was the rain
I'd be wary of
...friends like me;
one of those
"fair weather" friends
who curse my
unexpected arrival
on inopportune days
-but then cajoled and
praised when needed.

If I was the rain
would it be wrong for me
to feel used when
I am welcomed in the one
and shunned in the next?

At sad times I'm told
I contribute to the pain,
but then, a work of wonder,
as I meander on the window
or a tympani of pitter-patter
tapping on the roof.

I would just want to be me - and alone
if I was the rain...

I really love this title craig, “ if i was the rain” will be an excellent prompt, so inspiring and this poem resonates with me so strongly. Your free verse is so deep and touching, i wish oneday i can write so concisely and in a soulful manner like this. So happy i can read poets like you in this century. You make soup a wonderful place to learn.

Thats such a deep way of putting it , i wrote a poem once with something like that “ we forget to appreciate the sun when it rains “ maybe should upload. I wish for better days. This world is full of hatred, as poets, i wish we would be kind and empathetic. Sigh. Wishful thinking: i needed to hear that cause that left me a bit disheartened. Thank you craig! I appreciate your words.

Thanks so much! BTW - don't let rainy days on "The Soup" get to ya - we need them to remind us not to take the sun for granted, and both are needed for us all to grow.
