If I Knew
If I Knew
Lord, if I only knew what mysterious face is hiding somewhere past the haze,
What look you carry behind all those veils of light and living days,
Beyond the colors that keep pulsing and shattering at the break of dawn,
And beyond everything my eyes keep dreaming of but cannot lay eyes on.
You are the girl of my liquid dreams that slowly fall apart at night,
The mother of nameless constellations born from whispers and from light,
A silhouette that flows right through the violet seams of this wide universe,
Melting into all my visions like wax inside a solar flame that burns.
If I only knew how your hair falls soft like rivers made of stars,
Like strands of neon light woven wild between the fingers and the scars,
How your eyes hold entire galaxies dying slowly without a sound,
How your smile tears right through reality with a heat that turns me around.
I would write without stopping through a thousand fractured and clear-skied nights,
I would bleed out every single word I ever swallowed down too tight,
I would bend every melody that hums so deep between my bones,
Until the prism of my soul could finally show your untouched undertones.
I paint you in colors without names on canvases with no edge or end,
In sounds that taste like violet and like warm summer rain around the bend,
I trace your face on the back of my eyelids deep in the darkest place,
While the universe keeps pulsing through my veins in this sleepless, aching space.
Because I am dissolving slow and steady, cell by cell, day after day,
Waiting for your frequency to finally find its way,
Drifting alone inside this long and frozen bubble with no finish line,
Asking myself every single night if you will ever show up in time.
Maybe I will evaporate completely before I ever get to see your face,
A cloud of unfinished words, a story never told with any grace,
And the poems I wrote down in the delirium of my sleepless burning nights,
Will wander through a quiet and sad cosmos, lost and stripped of lights.
Just letters scattered into the endless cold and darkened void,
Just smoke spiraling upward toward the stars as time keeps getting destroyed,
From a soul that burned down slowly waiting on a face it never knew,
And wrote love poems its whole life long for someone it never got to view.
