If I Knew

If I Knew
If I knew that you and I would ever part,
I could have prepared for the pain I feel in my heart
If I knew that you would just walk away
I would have lived for now instead of yesterday.
If I knew that after all of this time my love
Would turn to hate, I would have asked god to show
me my fate. the years, the sweat, the blood,
The tears, the heartaches, lies, distrust and fears,
But as time goes on my heart will mend, and I can
Find it within me to call you my friend
