If I Had One Wish

So many thoughts come to mind
If only I could really go back in time
Change or undo my life’s violent and sexual crimes
Tell those around me to open their eyes
Pay Attention to the signs
If only one wish could really rewind
Those pedophilic hands of my life-time…

Then I stopped and started to think
Who would I be if this didn’t happen to me?
What of the woman I’d come to be
The wisdom I’d come to see
And my children who’s lives are abuse free
As a result of my past… my history…

Now, with eyes wide and mind free
Heart pounding, air, LOVE and life in me
Blessed with children to change my legacy,
Equipped with words and strength to share my story… my poetry
I’d wish only to open the eyes of the blind
The mouths of the abused and the hearts of our society…
I’d make them see… I’d make them see
So no other child has to end up like me…

i was lucky enough to have a protected and abuse free childhood and it is hard for me to picture the life of a little girl in this way. It is too sad. You have done well with this poem. Thank you for my 4th place in your contest. I told it exactly as it wa. Love, Joyce

A powerful write, Walayee! If only people would "Pay attention to the signs". Oprah, who was a victim herself, is now a crusader of this topic. Children. so sweet and innocent, don't deserve to be exposed to these terrifying acts. Great poem..good luck with your winning write! Mikki

Wow! Lay, i got goosebumps here. Me as a victim myself. I missed all the signs. Glad my end was not by his stupid hands. It's just sad to know how we fall to victims from age one. Good luck in the contest~luv*SKAT
