If I Could

If I could go back, I would. I’d show you your worth. I’d show you the scars you inflicted when perfection wasn’t attained. You struggled with fear that crippled and destroyed every good thing you gained. If I could go back, I would. I’d stop the pain you felt when you thought you weren’t good and hurt was your friend and enemy. He destroyed your being leaving behind an empty shell so numb and abandoned. If I could go back, I would. I’d wipe each tear that fell when you screamed out for help and the world passed you by. Every drop of blood flowed from the wounds etched onto your skin like lightening in the night sky. If I could go back, I would. I’d give you back your life I’d make sure you saw your worth, in each breath and smile. I’d embrace your tired body, giving you back the strength to live and treasure each moment. I really wish I could.
