If I

If I should write a poem, my last, Before the morning frost, My cause would be the charity, Of all we knew and lost. The legacy of those who live, Is more than who they link, The blessed right that people have, To live the way they think. If I should lay me down to sleep, In deference to above, Although my dream is incomplete, My heart is full of love. The gift of life is nature's bloom, A melody to those, Who hear the song and find the rest, In nature's sweet repose. If I should give a speech, my last, To say my goodly part, Then I would speak on what I know, The feelings of my heart. The happiness, that people seek, Is fleeting as a force, But love and kindness turn to joy, For one eternal course. If I should make a sacrifice, To celebrate my soul, Then I would give, my better half, To make my spirit whole. The chance to serve the ones who lack, Is how we learn to live, The more you love the more you have, A bigger heart to give. If I should run a race, my last, My finish line to face, My fervent wish would be to find, The strength of my own pace. To do the most that I can do, My limits more to test, And thus confirm to this, my soul, I did my very best.

Just brilliant Bryan. I suggest anyone who wants to learn the art of true rhyme should read your work. None of this feels forced or shoe-horned. Cheers - Gary
