If Goodbye

Once a girl affected me
In ways I never thought could be
Her manner and her means sublime
I grew to love her over time
I went ahead and ruined it
By loving her I did admit
Unavailable to be returned
She told me once, I hadn't learned
This heart of mine it did me in
How could it think that I could win
The fancy and the favor fair
Of her whom no one can compare
I should have kept it to myself
And left it up there on the shelf
If me no more you want to know
I'll understand, just let me go
