I Would Free a Butterfly

I would free a butterfly
Exhale a lifting goodbye
Never knowing where
Or why he drifted
In frivolous flight

I would remember
As he faded slowly
Into a sunset memory
Lost in the now
Slightly forgotten

Her colors would mingle
An oil paint pastel
Dissolving on the horizon
Challenging the critics
To define their meaning

I would free a butterfly
                                   ,,,Knowing
That it was the butterfly
                              …Who freed …me.
