Notes About The Poem

I Won't Be Surprised

Why am I surprised
that I can still be surprised;
for there is nothing new under the sun.
Watching life from the safety of my living room
television screen~
Turn it off!
Let reliance
on common sense
erase the voices
of modern hysteria.
Why am I surprised
that I can still be surprised;
friends turn out to be backstabbers,
without remorse for the evil they've done;
the nuclear option is "on the table."
Its mushroom cloud
will envelope the world
in Mutual Assured Destruction,
and surprisingly,
I won't be surprised!

I just love how you’ve conveyed this. And how you’ve written “ Why am I surprised that I can still be surprised; friends turn out to be backstabbers,” this! Literally my thoughts. It hits so strong . Love this. Resonates with me on so many levels
