I Wish I Could Have Friends
I wish I could have friends.
Like flowers like to have stems.
Which prop them up high.
I enjoy sitting at a table by the door.
Where people who aren’t my friends pass by.
I wish I could have friends.
But if I did…
I could be hit by a car.
On the way to see them.
So maybe having friends is dangerous.
I wish I had a helmet.
That could save me from being killed by circumstance.
I wish I could have friends.
I think I did in a past life.
Now, I sit in the cafe alone.
Except for my coffee, who doesn’t even like me.
I wish I could have friends.
Maybe someone in here does too.
Or I could write weird stories on my laptop.
Someone with my name got a coffee order too.
That doesn’t mean much to me.
I wish I could have friends.
So do they.
I put on my headphones.
And enjoy my coffee.
