I Wish I Could Be Water

I sit atop this rock, balanced above the falls Watching the water, it leaps and dances Tumbles past me and drops into the space below It has no fear, no angst, no hesitation I wish I could be water The water sparkles, sunlight like a diamond face Bright, almost happy that it will jump A joy, a desire to flow down, and onwards It seems to want to seek a future I wish I could be water This force flowing past me Such energy, such power Such direction, it has surety Each drop together with another I wish I could be water What it would be to journey for a lifetime with another A desire, a dream I have lost Like this stream it fell through my fingers I could not hold it I wish I could be water My eyes look down and follow the river’s course These splashes racing by don’t see this They have not a care What it must be to live so I wish I could be water It is time to leave this place, this rock, this point of view I let my hand fall briefly to touch the passing stream It is cold, unfeeling, no emotions No soul, just a carrier of life Perhaps I am like water 2016
