I Wish

I wish I could repeat the past,
And stop the hurt that you endured—
The pain that stole your happiness,
And left you empty and alone

I wish my hands could heal your scars,
And wipe away your darkest years—
Replacing them with warmth and love,
And turning all your tears to joy

I wish could have stayed with you,
To guard your heart against the world;
To save your soul from sorrow’s stain,
And fill your days with trust and love.
