I Will Not Fear the Night
INSTANT EVERYTHING
I don't feel sorry for you.
You got what you wanted;
instant food, instant entertainment,
instant relationships, instant sex, instant babies.
Your life is phony and made up by unreal people
who can't be moved to feel anything?
But you got what you wanted.
There is no depth to your love, but it feels so good
for an instant even though it doesn't last.
Your life makes me empty.
You have scars that no one can see,
but you are so grown up that you don't feel them.
So it's ok because everyone else is doing it.
In the hollow of your mind, there may still be a piece
of you that wants to be real, but don't worry,
society will wipe your true feelings away.
By the time you are fifty or sixty, you won't
feel a thing. You won't even cry real tears.
You won't even remember who you were when you began.
That isn't important anyway because by then you will
fit the recognized social mold of success.
You will have arrived.
Isn't that wonderful?
You will have instant everything
and you won't even have to become involved.
