I Will Not Break

I Will Not Break I will not break I will not flake I won’t bake My baby Like a cake Nor outdoor grill Or microwave I won’t cook My baby Like a steak I will not drink I will not think Of drowning My baby In the sink Nor swimming pools, Tubs, or lakes I won’t suffocate Him, or Throw him away I will not shake I will not smother My crying Baby, or Make him suffer I’ll protect my baby And keep him safe Because I’m his Mother I will not break Susan Burch *Written for my sister when she was pregnant

This has more than meets the eye....It could be silly and fun....or deadly serious, and a terrific reminder of what a good mother should recite every day!! Great job!!

Awe, Susan, i like this poem a lot... i think i read this one already~ did i not comment this poem... anyways. Your poem, should be printed in every gynecologist office..that way new mothers should never do none of the above. I hope your sister turned out to be a good mother. Good advice, this is the second time I've seen this poem & once again it gave me the chills! The thought of all the wrong mothers, breaking and not handling a baby. Adding this to my favorites, always~ The Poet Destroyer

hey, you did fantastic with this one!! you know, this might sound odd, but I thought this was written for Dr. Suess contest until I got to the end and saw you had previously done it for your sister! Heck, I bet it could pass for a Suess poem! are you going to use it for that one?

Very dark subject for light poetry, rhyming structure is quite nice, I wish you'd carried the same structure through out. Interesting poem, glad I dropped by.
