I Was There Today

I Was There Today
                by Bob Moore © 2020

I was there today, to hold your hand,
and although you did not understand,
who I was, or even why,
the look on your face made me cry,

You had sadly travelled, this road all alone
We had been there with you, but you hadn’t known
We had known you, and loved you, and you had loved us
and now you just wonder, about all the fuss

The years we had spent, as we travelled through life
as mother and daughter, or husband and wife
as father and son, siblings who played together
you no longer remember, those times filled with treasure

I was glad to be there, to hold your hand
and I believed at the end, you would understand
always you will live, till we meet again
in our heart and memory, safe, until then
