I Wake To Sleep
Ducks in raincoats, dogs in hats,
sinking lifeboats filled with cats,
narrow bridges, no side-rails,
soaring heights, faces pale.
Giant ships in narrow locks,
back and forth the great ship rocks.
Turquoise oceans, snow-white beaches,
arms outstretched, a baby reaches.
To that old vineyard I go once more,
my feet are bare and I am poor.
Sometimes my dad is there with me,
a dreamer's dream reality.
My childhood home is still the same,
but no one's there 'cept me to blame.
My sleeping self roams free and far,
soaring like a shooting star.
Unchained by time or earthly flesh,
many worlds in one quick breath,
but, God forbid, I have to ride
that elevator without sides.
I cling to the floor on hands and knees,
it swings inside the shaft with ease.
Then I awake, I'm back on Earth,
and try to figure which is worse.
Time is such a great restriction,
sleeping is a real addiction.
I must admit, I wake to sleep,
it is my haven from defeat.
