I Waited for the Lord

I waited for the Lord—
and He came,
at the very hour of my death.

He gently lifted me,
set me atop a high hill,
wiped every tear from my eyes,
and drew me close to His breast.

My patience was not in vain.
My weary resilience, at last, crowned.

Yet if He had lingered even one breath longer,
I would have broken.
