I used to be punk

I used to be punk, a declaration whispered into a decaf chai latte made with soy milk
Something a jerk would mouth off about behind me in line if I was in public
Hey I didnt choose this version of a midlife crisis
I used to live on coffee and cigarettes, you know actual coffee the kind that a had caffeine in it and id drink so much my heart would skip beats while I smoked like a freight train frantically writing my poetry
Only feeling alive if I was on the verge of death whether that was physically or metaphorically or all of the above
Now my biggest act of rebellion is revenge bedtime procrastination
I used to be punk, I whisper into my warm drink nestled in my soft sweater watching the birds outside my window
