I Used To Be a Zebra

And who was to know this creature so beautiful stripped and wild
Was about to take the form of child.

A child that needed love and protecting from harm
Yet none was there to comfort, to alarm

The sting of life this child could feel
But soon no longer as she would heal

A journey so strong so very true
The colour was no longer an emotion, blue

A force from above became a force within,
Why oh why did this take so long to begin.

Why? My child I hear you ask,
For there were lessons you needed to pass.

Enjoy this life and share your love
For then you will know the freedom of a dove

For I see you child I know your heart,
Be sure to make your sweet sweet mark.

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

Hi Elizabeth, LOL, sorry, I did both comments on at the same time, The first one was to welcome you to the community. The second was because I was intrigued by The Zebra symbolising your past life... Now, I have this third comment, because I got a notification, saying I had a reply. I thank you for taking the time to read my comment. Hope to see you on my poem page in the future... HUGS. LINDA

About your poem... I'm fascinated by the Zebra. One of the themes in my house is the zebra.. I'm amazed how you compared the emotional child to a zebra....enjoyed. Linda

Hi again Linda :) you will have to excuse me I didn't realise both posts were by yourself :) The reference to a Zebra is a regarding my past life. I know it's a little bit "out there" for some but it's my truth. The rest of the poem talks about abuse suffered as a child and young adult and the healing and awakening that took place :)

Elizabeth,, Welcome to Poetry soup I hope you enjoy the community. You'll find friendly poets who are ready to support and give positive feedback. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Other than that I will read, enjoy and comment with positive feedback. Remember, keep posting, stay in touch, TAP my shoulder when you have a new poem. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. You might find my support addictive. I've been a SOUP Poet for 6 years. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. I'm from Texas, How about you? Tell me a little about your poetic skills. I will enjoy following you and your poetry :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@
