I Tried to Save the Chameleon

when the chameleon entered our jungle that day
The large carnivores promptly headed his way
I am mostly a plant eater, and I yelled no!
They turned their heads, but only halfway so.

It was enough to allow the chameleon to escape
I do not know if he went toward the mountain or cape
But his colors were so beautiful, I wanted him to remain alive
I had to fight off a jaguar, a puma, and a monkey until five

That’s when the giant anaconda came slithering up
He chased them all away, and then he and I had a sup
When he laughed I could see way down inside his mouth.
Unfortunately, there was the chameleon, way down south.

Poor little thing. :( I certainly would never be brave enough to chase those jungle animals away. That anaconda was sure a smart alec! This poem was so cute. It was fun to 'see' as I read. :)
