I couldn’t love you
Even though I wanted to
Even though your goodness
Was better than most. . . .
Certainly better than mine
Or so it was
At the last.
I tried.
I tried until
I nearly died.
Until the best part of me
Was lost.
I tried
But I couldn’t love you
Even though I wanted to
