I Tremble To Know

I tremble to know that my Savior loves me And offered His life for my worth To pay for the promise of my destiny And prove me with time on this Earth I think of the pain in His sorrow And weep for the chosen who died Who fought for the strength of tomorrow And lost without choosing a side The path of each soul is forever And ever is all of our time But time is a worthy endeavor For winning the hills that we climb The fruit of our joy is in season For those who are hungry and thin The Lord is our strength and our reason For reaping the bounty within His love is the rod we must cling to When doubt is pervasive and strong The promise of peace and of virtue That springs from the heart like a song And all we must be is more willing To lead by example and love But love is more patient than thrilling For winning a mansion above.

Bryan, this is a wonderful poem of the Savior and one's relationship with him. I appreciate your commitment to true rhymes and consistent meter; this one flows so smoothly. I really liked the lines "The fruit of our joy is in season" and "But love is more patient than thrilling". Both remind me of the book title "A Long Obedience in the Same Direction". Thank you for this edifying poem ~ John

Thank you, John. For me, the concept of "God" is simple. For some, religion is defined by one verse in the New Testament. For others, it is defined by the notion "God is love." For others, it is the "beauty" of the earth. The point: religion is fundamentally simple, and enlarges according to our intellectual curiosity. To the atheist, religion begins with complexity. When two souls debate an issue, they don't begin with complexity. They begin with what they agree on. For me, that is belief in a mother and father. Thru them, we learn: creation (procreation), unconditional love, obedience, sacrifice, charity, humility, forgiveness, and gratitude. Thus, Christianity is membership in the Family of Man.

Bryan, I seldom read religious or "spiritual" poetry, but you have written a lovely poem here which expresses your faith in quite a beautiful way. Great rhymes and flow.

Thank you. I wrote the poem for a current contest and then I noticed that the contest was asking for a free verse poem and mine was in rhyme. I tend to be more spiritual than religious, but respectful of other's beliefs, too. Thank you for reading.
