I Thought of You

I thought of you this morning your sweet little face
your warm dark eyes your little paws
how you slept by me in the night, your soft snore

Only 14 still young for a small dog my family my friend
your heart was enlarged, seemed fit as your heart was large
and loving I thought of you this morning with warm tears

Falling down my face and you were alone
at the emergency vet they did not let me in
The Covid kept me out until that morning
When they said you most be put to sleep

Would I want to be there oh God
and I was and I kissed you and pat you
though I felt you sensed this shot was deadly

But I told you it would be okay and the pain
would go away and you were quiet and
your eyes finally became dull and your
enlarged heart stopped.

I thought of you this morning
and I thought of others mothers and fathers
lost too and alone with dull and lifeless eyes

Love gone
I had no family but my husband
who cried with me all of us human and pets
families loss death and life both warm and cruel

It is so sad when we must save a pet from suffering a slow painful death. If only people could be treated as kindly legally. We lost our Tommy cat this way and we all cried. My daughter and granddaughter had to leave. They could not bear to watch. I held him in my arms while he slipped away. I am so sorry you had to lose your loving pet Linda. Your lovely poem honors his memory. Blessings xxoo

sorry for the pain for your family, the problem with our pets that go before us and yet the goodness of the natural law that allows us to take care of them until their end.

I had a dog once which was left abandoned. I spent a fortune trying to revive him. Finally he died. So I know how you feel.
