I Swear I Swear

Of the ripples, their fervent flow;
Of the bedecked boat;
Of the lonely land ‘mid the deep waters;
Of the grasses there grew, the thorns thrive;
Of the boatman, his patiently wait;
Of the old man, his serve, humbleness, and tea;
Of the fore-noon, May’s sky and the sun;
Of the carved wood-benches, of the wet shade;
Of the low lying wild trees;
Of the gloomy woods eastward;
Of the marbles’ mosque there by the western shore;
Of the wide waters, of their pure;
Of the jubilant go;
Of the sad return;
Of their—all, holiness and one;
I swear, I swear
I had thee, h’nestly loved…!
