I Still Write Letters

Call me a dinosaur,
Call me square,
I don't care,
Letters to write I dare.

They are something I love to share,
Even if others stare,
I don't care,
Letters to write I dare.

Reply's they come from afar,
To bring the writer nearer.
I do care,
Letters to write I dare.

Thoughts on paper,
Never truer,
I do care,
And I do dare,

It's Christmas time of year,
From you I would like to hear,
In a letter, if you dare,
While your memory is still clear.

A stamp I attach here,
On an envelope with my name yet to appear,
I know for truth you care,
So a letter to write you should dare.

I used to be an avid letter writer when i was younger and had many penpals but that has stopped for so many reasons and I send e mails rarely letters these days. Reading through the comments i send you belated birthday greetings David it is mine on Burn's night ... maybe i was destined to write poetry!:-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks Jan. I think I was 1ST born in NZ in that year so allowing for us being first to see the sun in world I may well have been first born Son in world, which is interesting as I was not expected top live long (double pneumonia). Our family also has 2nd, 3rd and 10th of January covered. Have a good week David in NZ

David, I love the sentiments you so wonderfully express in your poem. There is a magical quality about sending and receiving handwritten letters; the anticipation, the joy when you find one in your mailbox, and the intimacy.. A beautiful write with a lovely rhythm.. enjoyed!.. ~Susan

I think people still love getting handwritten letters! So yes, we should write them. I love your poem, and what it inspires the reader to do.

I love letters, but don't like those Christmas letters. I write and get some personal letters and notes. Those I love! Keep it up, David!
