I Stand In Prayers
I stand in prayers...
I stand in prayers.
To pay my humble respect to the Almighty
I close my eyes,
I bow my head,
To see an unseen God
May be just a spark of light.
In the darkness that surrounds me
My mind plays havoc.
Concentrate, imagine you are standing in front of the Lord, I say to myself.
But behold,
I see my mother reading the scriptures.
My wife in the kitchen
My daughter at her study desk
Oh no, this can’t be happening.
I need to concentrate and focus on the Lord.
I close my eyes.
And behold.
I hear the chirping of the birds.
The meowing of the cat
My mind soaking in the rainforest.
Running around on the beaches
Walking with the moon under the canopy of stars
No, this can’t be happening.
I need to concentrate; I need to focus.
I need to see my Lord.
I need to see Kaaba, but the images of a temple run by
I need to hear the Azan, but church bells penetrate me.
I need to pray, but the memories of my love haunt me.
Tears roll down my cheeks, for my lack of devotion.
My prayers I assume dashed on the rocky shores of religion.
I had no proof of God.
The unseen remained unseen.
But in the mistiness and fogginess of my mind
I realized.
I had seen Him in all that I loved.
He had shown me the panoramic view of all that He is.
