I Smiled Today
I smiled today.
Even though I can’t call you mine.
I’m not going to give up though,
Even if right now you are taken.
I waited once when you were free and that was a mistake,
But that’s okay ‘cause I’ve learned and I won’t make it again.
I should’ve let you know but I was scared, and so I lost you.
But I haven’t lost you forever; so I will continue on,
Holding hope until you know the truth of how I feel about you.
Whatever happens after that, I’ll let happen,
But I’m no longer going to stand around loving you from afar,
Wondering what could be. Wondering “What if”…
No I will no longer do that,
However while you are happy with another,
I’ll keep myself busy with something else
Until my time comes and when it does,
I’ll be ready.
So like today; I will smile tomorrow,
And the next day, and the next day.
And I will smile for all eternity
While waiting for when I can call you mine.
