I Saw You

I saw you this morning, peeking at me in the mirror. Not a word did you utter just the gently turned corners of your elusive smile. I could feel you this morning, in the recesses of my mind. I've been trying to catch you every day of my life, but you always slip past. You fled from me this morning, hiding deep in the shadows, the darkness always there. Forever, you taunt me as I feel you so near. You were there this morning as you eternally are, but you freely slip away. Like breath in the ether, I can never hold you. I had you this morning for just a moment in time. I could see the subtle twinkle shining in my sad eyes, then you left me again. You escaped me this morning, but I will continue to try, if it takes my whole life time I know with each heart beat that, happiness, some day I will find you.

The quest for everlasting happiness, fleeting at best. Well said James.

Thank you for the lovely comment. Like the early morning mist, you can see it but it is so difficult to hold.
