I Said My Goodbyes

I said my goodbyes to you that day long ago.
I grieved for the loss of someone I loved so.
For so many years I journeyed on
A path with no beginning or end,
Seeking a reason why our journey so soon had to end.
What really was the reason you had to go away?
Maybe it would be better if you just didn't say.
Should I leave you alone with your memories,
Maybe you'll feel the hurt and sorrow these twenty years have
Given me
We once had dreams of a bright future for you and me,
Then you left and all was left was only memories
And now you are standing here before me
Promising this time it will be different
This time you'll stay with me
