I Remember the Way

I remember the way
Your eyes flickered to light
When you looked my way.

I remember the way
Your smile reached your eyes
When you looked my way.

I remember the way
My heart began a dance
When you looked my way.

I remember the way
My heart stopped and dropped
When one day, you told me not to call again.

I remember the way
I had been so manipulated
When I came to know your way.

I remember the way
It felt to feel meaningless
Because of your selfish way.

I remember my new aim
Ever since I ripped you out of my heart
I will never let anyone use me again.

It really is hard to move forward into a new relationship when you have been through something like this, Caroline. Truly a moving poem to which many can relate. I would classify it as a kyrielle because of the repeating lines, but it could also be considered free verse. Well done, my friend. Love, Carolyn
