I Remember That Smile and Look

As I lie on my bed reading my book My mind wondered to a look and a smile Staring down on me. I turn to cry awhile. I could not stay focused; I closed the book. I remembered I had my husband's phone Number in my contacts. I reached for my Cellphone on the night table with a sigh I scrolled down to his name (Dad), only he'd known; Opened message. I've always called him Dad. When the screen came up, I typed, I love you, A heart I picked to place, when I was through, I pushed send. Tearful grief, do not think me mad. Two and a half years since he has been gone His sweet scent of utter love still lives on. 3/9/2021

Congratulations on your win. A loving/beautiful-story/write. Love your line, "Pushed send. Tearful grief, do not think me mad." Not mad just filled with memories. Good memories are the best. Have a blessed day with hugs................

Precious memories. I can sense the desperation to reach out to your loved one even after he is gone. Very touching.

This is perfectly normal behavior, Eve. In that moment, you felt a need to communicate with him. (Pres. Reagan used to call Nancy "Mommy.") Lovely sonnet. Best wishes in the contest, Carolyn

Eve, A smile shared in the stars now. Your memories give all of them wings. Is there anything more beautifully, painfully true in life? Than a message sent with love. -Richard

A sad one. When my granddaughter’s grandpa died, she continued to text him. One in grief wants to still reach out. Good write!

I do relate with your feelings even though I do not have a phone number and do not dream of sending him/her any messages. But I carry her photo with me always in my prayer book.
