I Recall That Day
The day, like many other days, was sunny and calm.
My morning, as always, was repetitive and sure.
But suddenly, a sound that will forever occupy my mind
And a sight that makes me wish to be blind,
Occurred and changed the world.
The horror! Devastation! The pillaging of innocence!
This day, so much life was taken from the sky
And I could only see, hear and fear, then run.
And, like others, trapped in utter dismay
Was grateful to have gotten away.
But images haunt and thrive.
Well, now there’s the rebuilding,
The structural defining of a future gone awry.
With all hands as one, as is, the future has begun.
Though, still remain the remains.
The concrete and steel tomb of those now gone
Is now being removed to lay them to rest.
Through smoke and through smell and the fires of Hell
They all come together as one.
And, the world, seeming trapped in an overcast moment
Will, through strength, awaken to view a new sun.
