I Really, Really Don’t Like Your Poem

Your poem I read with the greatest care
But no real meaning could I see there

It was unrelated words strung end-to-end
No talent or sense could I apprehend

A “verse” consisting of only one word
Who, of such a thing, has ever heard?

I have to wonder if you were on cocaine
Or too long at the bar you did remain

If I should dare to express any dismay
You’re certain to retaliate in some way

So without comment I’ll pass it on by
And another’s writing I will now try

Maybe yours has merit that I can’t see
But I sure can’t imagine what it can be

One time, when I was new here, I asked a guy what his poem was supposed to mean and gave him suggestions for improvement. Of course he got super offended, because who am i, right? But I wasn't trying to be arrogant; i was trying to be helpful! So I hate it when poems don't make sense and even more when everyone's like "that's awesome!" while i am thinking wtf? love your poem :) Login to Reply

However, I do see comments excessively praising writes that make absolutely no sense to me or that are rife with the most terrible errors. Of course, I am far from being a qualified "critic."
