I Put Dorothy Firmly In Place
Firmly in place Dorothy lets me know we can go now.
I am amazed at her willingness to be the first to arrive.
You are brave I tell her in the mirror
She winks.
Not to worry I tell myself; insecurities well hidden.
Socialized she is who they will see.
Real me can snore away
While witty Dorothy laughs at their prettiness.
My friend Charmaine joins us.
I’m wearing Helen, she tells me.
As if I could not tell; Helen is an utmost party mask!
Dorothy and Helen grin at each other.
I shall reveal nothing of my true self, Charmaine confides.
Dorothy carefully does not smirk or laugh.
I adore her for this.
She keeps my secrets always
