I Pray For That Day

The world is in turmoil, confusion reigns

The dark side has risen, riding the wave

Altruism has faded to be bested by pain,

Consigning conscience to a lifeless cold grave.

Each to their own no place for kindness

Eyes closed to suffering, pretend it's not there

Blinkered to need, immune to distress

No time to help, no time to care.

Yet surely somewhere flickers a flame

A light in the dark to show us the way,

Love cannot be cowed, it will rise again

Oh Lord above, I pray for that day.
