I Nurse

Yes

It is i

I am

The

Nurse

Who held your eye's gaze

And so to held your hand

At what seemed the world's end

Your guardian angel

Repeating your name

Begging you to stay the course

Not give in

Or up

Saving you from crossing over

With no personal investment

Pending in the outcome

But yet you did and do

Every day and again tomorrow

Without fail or fault

Stoic brave beyond reproach

To many not the few

Who for without you

Tomorrow never comes

Will arrive

For thou art

I nurse

Death's only

One true foe

Amen

Cherished be

And blessed they

Each and every

One of them

I only pray your reward

Be fitting

Of your

Self- Sacrifice

Death may be an outlet

But your kindness is the inlet

Dear Christopher, they are truly angels on earth some of them, sacrificing their health for us, I pray we realize the gift they give every day, I do, I have 3 nurses living in my complex, I see how tired they are at end of day . Take care, it was nice reading your poems, be well, and write :)

A great tribute to the unsung heroes of our hospitals, And an excellent poem Most definitely can relate to this one Christopher, the doctors get most of the accolades although sometimes out of necessity they can be very clinical, but the nurse is the one with the human touch, that goes the extra mile, without being judgmental, I myself would fail miserably in this career, I’d probably prefer the operating theatre, cheers David
