I Never Thought

I never thought it would be me, Waiting month after month, Hoping fertile blessings would cast a shadow on thee, I never thought it would be me, Feeling bitter and disengaged to those who can relate to motherhood, I had it all planned, Laid out on a calendar. With the perfect partner and circumstance, Dreaming about names, smiles and innocent laughter, Wiping her tears and speaking wisdom from experience, I never thought it would be me, Engraving a tattoo of “hope” on my wrist for the world to see, I know time (as they say) heals all, No more empty bottles of wine to drown my sorrows, No more puffy eyes from painful tears, No more thoughts of doubt, Or accepting failures, I know my body has not permanently failed me, I still have time, Looking at the clock watching days pass me by, Wondering why, I never thought it would be me...
