I Never Saw It Coming
She used to take my calls and commandeer them.
It was all about her.
If I wanted to add something she would have to “go”
which meant hang up.
She would always beg me to bring my other friend to stuff.
Because she was a name dropper
Apparently I was not a big enough name.
So I did, wanting to please her.
She would run toward our mutual friend,
Lavishing her with welcoming overtures.
I thought it was amusing.
I can always entertain myself.
One day she wanted me to do something against my ethics.
Against my moral code, against my soul.
I told her I could not, and did not realize our “friendship” was over
Until I discovered she had blocked me from her phone.
I was surprised, and saddened.
Mostly saddened.
I never saw it coming.
