Well I gave up smoking and I gave up booze,
I might give up the horses but I can’t give up the blues.
The blues has got me, and I got the blues.
I gave up buying those fancy foreign cars,
I gave up girls that look like movie stars.
I gave up buying things I never use,
But You know damn well I never gave up the blues.
The Band sings
You know damn well he never gave up the blues.
I gave up waiting for my number to come in,
I gave up living a life that’s filled with sin.
I gave up dreaming of an oceanic cruise,
But you know damn well I never gave up the blues.
The Band sings
You know damn well he never gave up the blues.
I gave up eating anything that’s sweet,
I gave up hitting on every girl I meet.
I gave up paying those stupid union dues,
But you know damn well I never gave up the blues.
The Band sings
You know damn well he never gave up the blues.
I gave up believing that I was really cute,
I gave up wearing my polyester suit.
I gave up church cause I couldn’t stand the pews,
But you know damn well I never gave up the blues.
The Band sings
You know damn well he never gave up the blues.
And when my life is over and I’m standing at the gate,
St. Peter says hey B.B. whatcha do that’s great?
I’ll have an answer ready one that I can use,
I’ll say you know damn well I never gave up the blues.
B.B. sings
The blues has got me…………. And I got the blues
DA Dot DA,DA,DA,DA,DA,DA,DA,DA, DUM….OH YEA!
