My opinion of the current state of the union. The parties should reach across the aisle, a little, at least.
I May Be Mistaken
By Franklin Price

I may be mistaken but, in watching all the raves,
I believe our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves.
We're not acting patriotic when the parties have their say.
They're making quite a hell on earth as they travel on their way.
Republicans hate democrats. The reverse I know is so,
Neither one is ever right, ask the other, they both know.
If we had changed the Constitution that has worked for many years,
We would have a different president and a different set of fears
The largest cities in the country would be the ones to have their say,
Not the states that don't have many, all the Constitution's way.
Big money and big business would be making all the rules
They think that we the people are a bumbling bunch of fools.
All fifty states important. All to have a say is fair.
The college makes that happen though deplorables are there.
The electoral college should not be put aside.
Election, by the popular vote, would do away with stately pride
We can't forget the people who struggle day to day,
Who don't have any money, but who try to find a way.
That's what this country's all about; the possibility
For all created equally, to be who they can be.
Now let's talk about the president who was elected fair and square,
According to the Constitution, and the rules that now are there
He was elected by the people who listened to their country's need
Trump said he'd make us great again to minimize the graft and greed
Would bring back manufacturing, put the people back to work,
Protect our country's borders from the terrorists who lurk.
Repair our great armed forces who protect the world we know.
Negotiate with other countries for more fairness as we go
Would not continue giving all, for nothing in return.
That's why we're going down the drain with no money left to earn
Help the ones who need our help and can't afford the way
Not free for the more fortunate, if they want us, they must pay
Trump is now the president, elected by the law,
Not a Washington insider, sticks in their collective craw
Let's take a realistic look at just how far we are,
For the time he's been in office, and the pennies in the jar.
Employment and economy the best this century's seen
More people are now working and are bringing home the green
Cut taxes to employers so they could offer better pay
Got it done and moved along, to stay out of the way
Better pay and bonuses were paid throughout the land.
Thousands got a thousand instead of getting canned
For the rich a thousand dollars doesn't give them many thrills.
For people living day to day, it pays off past due bills.
The rich and powerful are greedy a million's just another perk
Raises are not possible for employees doing work
All they do is cost the rich and take their toys away
Employees do so little work to earn their paltry pay
With tax cuts it is possible, with the money newly found,
For the benefited businesses, to spread the wealth around.
Time will tell if greed wins out, or they answer to the call
To raise to living wages the very poorest of us all
We've always helped each other, that has mostly gone away
Let's make this country great again by bringing caring back to stay
Without the workers working, the rich would not be rich
And the business that put them there would be broke and in the ditch
Trump's not so presidential, as an insider, it's true
Doesn't dabble in our daily lives and everything we do
Many tweets, he sends, are foolish, and below his vaunted views.
Many things he has accomplished, not reported by the news.
Stood up to North Korea, almost gone the terror threat,
Got NATO to contribute more for the protection that they get.
Has started with the southern wall to keep illegals out
To decrease the drugs and criminals is mostly what it's all about.
The media mostly tramples on the good things he has done
It started sometime previously, Trump is not the one
He mostly gets in trouble, reporting that is only fair.
We don't need an outsider president, who grew an independent pair.
It's time that we remembered that neither party wanted him
Was elected by the people whose thoughts are dull and dim
Doesn't matter we're the government, D.C. only represents
We the people finally had our way I hope to God we made some sense.
