I Made the Coffee
I made the coffee,
But, really, who made who?
Am I the master of my own destiny?
Or a servant of the microbes that steer me?
Why must I pollute myself with poisons?
Coaxed to trade longevity for a glow
What is the key to happiness?
Why is it locked away?
I wear the clothing,
But, really, what made me?
Was it the protection of my parents?
Or something less apparent in my nature?
Is nurture bound to capitalistic greed?
By these threads we still enslave
Where is our enlightenment?
Why is the path dark?
I draw the line,
But, really, what drew me?
Do the colours of thought excite me?
Or am I tinted by the chemistry that I excite?
Why does grey matter dance with light?
Changing me by neuro-transmitter
When will we truly awaken?
Why is it we sleep?
