I Love Hard-Diamond Hard

sometimes I cry, imagine I am in bed about to die, my daughters at my side. I think then I might feel loved... maybe... something from my childhood... I guess...I think...I don't know. I love hard with everything I have ...but I don't know how to feel loved... I don't. I love hard...diamond hard. accepting love back? it might as well be coal. I think it's something from my childhood, I guess, I don't know. maybe if I was dying my daughter's at my side... ...maybe then I would believe that someone could love me, maybe... sometimes I cry in the middle of the day or anytime in front of a screen. I love hard really really hard. if I love you...you know it,  if I know you...there's a good chance ...a good chance I love you, I know...'cause I'm all out of shirts. you love me too?...I know... but  I don't know how to feel it ...I don't understand it. You love me? " I love you more!"

Sure wish I could get what you mean by loving so deeply but not being able to accept it! It seems such a contradiction! anyway, I really do like this poem. and I hope you learn to FEEL love back. You deserve that!!!

It has to be chemical or my childhood. I was alone until the age of seventeen in the sense that I had no friends or female companionship. At seventeen after performing in the school play as the lead I had friends a girlfriend the works. However to this day I know in my brain I am loved but I don't feel loved. I don't fully accept it as if I am not entitled. My daughters love me like crazy. Still they know because we talk about everything that I have a hard time feeling loved. To love though. My God if I love you there is nothing I will not do for you.

I think I kind of get this one. Except for me, it is kind of different. I don't like to SAY I love you to people. I never said it to my own mother until I left for college. Everyone at church was telling me I needed to say those words, and so I just started saying them to people (like the ending of this, "I have it memorized.") NOw I say it a lot to my loved ones. I feel love, but I don't know if it is the best love according to what I was taught (God's love, etc) Your poem makes me think!!

I came back and saw these notes. I can see that you accept compliments with humility. That is such a good thing. I hope one day to see you direct a play!

I had a long explanation above this one then it hit me because I had to learn how to accept a compliment as well. I am not comfortable with praise. You must know lots of people who can not easily accept compliments. It is the same thing with accepting that I am loved. Although theatre is the one exception I am like a fish in water. I am the best me. Then I can not only accept compliments but I can with humility. Just really comfortable in that arena.

A sincere and open bio expressed in a perplexed way that might make the reader questions to ask! Yet is beautiful and achieve its purpose: To know you better and to love you even more, mon ami, Maurice!

Sometimes its much easier to rely on our own love than the precious love others give to us, I understand Maurice. Strong poem of open heart.J.A.B.

I loved the diamond and coal lines. I also really loved: "...I'm all out of shirts..." Haha, great.

Hi Maurice, This is a very heartfelt and emotional poem. I think love perhaps must be the strongest of emotions, powerful ,and difficult at times. As you say in your poem.................diamond and coal.

I like your style. The repetition fits in your case and is anything but boring. It drives home the simplicity of the piece. Love, daver

You just need to see the signs of love...Someone doing something for you without asking. The smiles....The euphoric feelings....going out of their way to say hi...You are loved my friend and I love your poetic piece.....cheers

Yes sorry Jan, that reference is a bit vague, I see your interpretation as a logical conclusion. When someone is a giving person we use the expression "he would give you the shirt off his back". That is what I meant to mean. I will see how I can change that. Thank You.
