I Live With Zombies

BY MARK RAYMOND MILLER
COPY RIGHTED 12/28/2017
I LIVE WITH ZOMBIES
THEY ARE IN MY LIVING ROOM
TELLING ME HAPPY STORIES
WHICH I FAIL TO HEAR
WITH ZERO'S BEHIND THE LITTLES
WHO ABIDE WITH TEACHERS MIGHT
RECEIVE A LETTER EXTRAORDINAIRE
MAY I MASK WHY SO SOLEMN
RULING CLASS TO STAPLED BEDS
ARE NOT HONORARY DECAY
JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE HAD WORDS
WITHOUT MENTION TO LOVE HIS DEAD
AS IF WE ENTER EXITS WITHOUT EXISTENCE
IF YOU WONDER WHERE THEY LIVE
ACROSS THE SEAT FROM YOU
I PROMISE TO WAIT MY DEAR
FOR LOVE AND HONOR SINCERE
SHOULD YOU CRY SO SOON
ALL IS SILENT ON THE WESTERN FRONT
WHERE CANNONS FIRE PROJECTS PAST
RIVER SOMME'S BODY VESSEL STUMPS
OH BUT YOU ONLY KNOW SO LITTLE
OF STILLBORN BABY EMMA'S ENCOUNTER
WITH FRESH YOUNG MEMES DELIVERED
ALIVE TO INFECT US ALL WITH RAZOR
EDGE TEETH WHICH EARN TO SINK
WAS IT ONLY YESTERDAY WE SPOKE
OF OUR PAST DATE OUT COLD IN LOST
I MUST ADMIT WITHOUT YOU AROUND
WHO IS WORTHY OF MY SINISTER
PLAYGROUND HORROR TERROR HOUR
I BID YOU ALL GOOD DAY PEOPLE
FOR SOON MUSHROOM CLOUDS WILL
FILL OUR DAYS BUT DON'T DISMAY
THEY'LL BE VISITORS FROM NIGHTIME GRAVES
WHO ARE DEARER TO US THAN THOSE DISPOSED

Poetry has to be a little evasive. Like it's running away from you. It's alive and breathing. Yeah, that's it. Poetry must evolve. Like any art it also must be elusive, even from yourself. Or what's the point. Your not writing a novel or a story. Your writing about a feeling. An emotion. And we can never pinpoint where or how they got there. However, poetry can lead you to those dark corners where admittance is exclusive. The metaphor being Alice's rabbit hole. Poems must have multiple pathway
