How fun to carefully choose words set to rhyme (I don't usually talk like this all the time) I became a poet to share my Thought-- I am told I'm "thoughtful"; I think a LOT I joined PoetrySoup, to organize my memories, ponderings, cut to size And here I found a whole community where all our speech is used to set us free A welcoming place to say how we feel as feelings untangle, our wounds may heal Our comments never put each other down (even sad Ophelia would not drown) Perhaps books of my poems will never sell but I'll go on opening my heart, to tell This is our time, to tell fiction, write true later, folks will read to learn what we knew [Why Did I Become A Poet Poetry Contest]

"A welcoming place to say how we feel/ as feelings untangle, our wounds may heal" So true! Poetry books may not sell, but let it not restrict us from telling our thoughts. Beautifully written.

You have given valid reasons for you to become a poet. Your rhyming couplets are quite meaningful. "Perhaps books of my poems will never sell but I'll go on opening my heart, to tell" Love these lines. There is so much truth in this. It is a fact that poetry books do not have many takers these days!

Thanks, Valsa. :) Yeah, in fact it was after I tried to submit one of my first poems to a magazine (to get paid for them publishing it), they recommended I just join PoetrySoup. ;) But I have no regrets. The community and contests have inspired so many more poems than any amount of money could have. :D
