I Know How To Be Invisible

I know how to be invisible-
To sit by the wayside like
A shadow, like a trick of the light-
Eyes pass over me without seeing,
Without asking why I am here;
Fight or flight was always foolish-
I learned how to disappear.

Like a crack on the ceiling,
Like a black button that had
Rolled into the darkness
That presses against the wall,
Like a scent you've grown
Too used to for you
To notice...
I've always been here,
Just not clearly enough
To come into focuse.
