I Know But I Do Not Practice It
A magician hypnotizes me nightly, taking me to the Planet
Xerox which is in another dimension where I am turned into
A space robot or an alien. I never know which.
The fourth graders sat with their mouths open like cod fish.
It was Chet’s first day, and the teacher had asked him to
Tell them a bit about his life.
The teacher was confused. This is supposed to be nonfiction,
She told Chet. You know what that is, right?
The kids waited, eagerly.
“I know it, but I do not practice it,” Chet said.
Taking his place as the proud alpha of the class.
The teacher knew she was going to have an interesting year now.
