I Keep My Lamps Filled
I keep my lamps filled, and all ready to light.
My Lord will come without warning.
It may be first thing in the morning
Or it may be in daytime or night.
With no time to waste nor a minute to spare
I keep everything ready to go.
Lights out time I'm not privileged to know,
But I have my bags packed with a prayer.
For some he comes early, for some he comes late,
The Lord has his reasons for choosing,
When called there will be no refusing.
No man is allowed to pick his own date.
I've my ticket to go when my time is due
In spring or summer, winter or fall,
Dear Lord, I'm ready whenever you call,
And the time is known only by you.
