I Indulge Pamper and Love Myself

I indulge myself, pamper myself and love myself daily. Putting up an imaginary stop sign if I hear mean internal words. Belittling words, putting down words or a frowny face. I yell STOP as loudly as I can, for this is a technique I teach children. I put three sugars in my coffee and a packet of cocoa sweet. This gives me a little uplift before breakfast. I blow kisses to myself in the bathroom mirror. And say “Hi Daddy!” for I have my Daddy’s face. I miss him, and this makes me smile. I am all about doing things I love and I love lots of things. I socialize on the phone while I cartoon and paint. My friends all beg to meet but I put them off. Because each day is my own, and I love to cartoon. I draw mushroom and teapot houses on canvases. Gnomes, faeries, brownies, witches and pirates follow. My muse laughs as I add a giant red cat and a petite lavender dog. Painting the canvases gives me such delight it should be illegal. My creations are full of acrylic neon paints that glow in the dark. We have black lights in three rooms of the house. Over six hundred of my paintings uplift and refresh me daily. I am an elementary school counselor, teaching character ed lessons. I love my job and cannot fathom ever giving it up. I will probably be going out with a toe tag in a body bag. When I am ninety-two and my body is pronounced dead. Death does not scare me, I do not believe in it. Only a much lovelier place that is our real home. As we are really spirit, right God? I never teach the same year twice. I write my lessons up into books, and put them on LuLu. I write ten poems a day, and I have ten terrific grandchildren. My dogs Buddy and Sophie and my husband Joe adore me. My life is grand thanks to me concentrating on having fun daily.

Such a delightful poem, Caren. I think you should pamper yourself. You have earned that right over the years by pampering others!

I truly think of me all the time now, my days are numbered. I do not expect to live much past 93.
