I Helped Myself Up
Oh long lost forlorn has left me;
stranded,
forgotten,
left amongst the dying rocks.
...I help myself up.
I climb a cliff, the rocks biting,
feasting upon my flowing blood;
incision-
upon incision-
...I help myself up.
Gripping earth with nails untrimmed,
gritting at the pain within,
seeking redemption in the eyes of fate,
straining forth in wasted state;
exhausted;
famished;
unsure of my own future-
...I help myself up.
Escaping vertigo, my legs descend to ground once more;
firm ground with mellow grass, scrunching beneath my very steps;
I lift my gaze to what's in store,
in the very bottom of my core,
standing my ground where I should've fallen;
I turn my head-
...to where I helped myself up.
